Product Description

Mundum Neriyathum (Set Mund) is the traditional clothing of women in Kerala, South India. It is the oldest remnant of the ancient form of the saree which covered only the lower part of the body. In the mundum neriyathum, the most basic traditional piece is the mundu or lower garment which is the ancient form of the saree denoted in Malayalam as 'Thuni' (meaning cloth), while the neriyathu forms the upper garment the mundu. The mundum neryathum consists of two pieces of cloth, and could be worn in either the traditional style with the neriyathu tucked inside the blouse, or in the modern style with the neriyathu worn over the left shoulder.

Fabric Care Guidelines

Fabric is precious, and we’ve outlined a few tips to help you care for your new purchase.

Pre-wash Recommendation

It’s a good idea to pre-wash any washable natural fibers that will undergo garment washing in the future, as some shrinkage may occur. We suggest pre-washing fabrics in the same way you intend to wash your finished creation, including drying.

Separating Colors

Wash light and bright colors separately, as some may run during the first few washes. These care tips are general guidelines, and variations may apply to specific fabrics. Extra caution should be taken when washing high-contrast prints with highly saturated pigments like red, black, or navy on a light-colored base. These prints are prone to color bleeding and should be cold machine-washed and dried without delay.

Special Fabrics

Certain fabrics, such as satins, sequinned, beaded, coated, or foiled materials, along with specialty weights, styles, and delicate items, may require unique washing instructions

Cotton

  • Machine washable and bleachable (if white).
  • Wash colors separately.
  • Avoid twisting or wringing.
  • Tumble dry on a cool setting or dry in the shade to prevent fading.
  • Use a hot/warm iron on the cotton setting.
  • Dry-cleanable.

Linen/Hemp

  • Gentle machine wash or cool hand wash.
  • Wash colors separately.
  • Avoid twisting or wringing.
  • Tumble dry on a cool setting or dry in the shade to prevent fading.
